CONTENTS: Introduction to dosimetry of ionizing radiation. X-ray tubes and their spectra for digital mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis and digital radiography. Attenuation based and phase contrast based X-ray imaging, fluoroscopy. Image quality in radiography: SNR, LSF, PSF, MTF, NPS, DQE. Computed tomography (CT). Dose in radiography and CT and image quality. Radiation dose and health risk. Nuclear medicine imaging with radioactive tracers: scintigraphy and gamma camera, SPECT, PET, TOF-PET, PET/CT and SPECT/CT. Principles of radiotherapy with photons, electron and hadrons. Introduction to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

 

LABORATORY OF MEDICAL PHYSICS

CONTENTS: Dosimetric measurements with ionization chamber for the characterization of X-ray beams for mammography, general radiography and computed tomography. Characterization of X-ray spectra from an X-ray tube: kVp, tube current, half value layer, filtration. Measurements with radiochromic films for radiology and radiotherapy. Percentage depth dose measurements in water and in Plexiglas. Acquisition and processing of radiographic images of test objects. Evaluation of image quality of radiographic images (noise, spatial resolution) and radiation dose. Acquisition of phase-contrast radiographic images of test objects. Use of the ImageJ freeware for image analysis.
